Virginia Henderson is the most famous nurse of the 20th century because of her library tools, the Sigma Theta Tau's International Nursing Library.

I really liked her idea of having
an electronic networking system to advance the work of the staff nurses by updating them the current information.

She was the "The First Truly International Nurse" and the "First Lady of Nursing", I think she really deserved this title. She is known for being an elegant and a beautiful person inside and out, I admire her because of her characteristics.

Her most important contribution was the 14 Basic Components of Nursing.

Even though the information about Virginia Avenel Henderson was not quiet long like the others , she really made me amazed.

Thank you ma'am for sharing us the life story of Virginia Henderson and teaching us the essence of her theory.

it is such an elating factor in the nurses' parts to have virginia henderson's contribution in rendering nursing care to those in need...

her life, achievements and theoretical assertions convey not only dosages of giving care but also self-realization of the sense of professionalism within...

her theory, "14 basic components of Nursing care" is like one of the pieces of the Jigzaw, a significant fraction that when lost will never make the nursing concept complete and functional..

the utilization of her theory effectively provides a greater access towards establishing an efficient relationship with the patients, physicians and other health care team members and boosts the feeling of euphoria upon rendering care and teaching independence to the patients...

henderson, in my own point of view, is one of the indestructible pillars of the nursing profession...

First of all, I loved the song. It remind me of how essential Henderson's theory is to us future nurses and to the rest of the people as well. We really need her 14 Basic Needs to live a life with an optimal health.

I have read that she is the Florence Nightingale of the twentieth... Amazing! I hope someday I'll be a theorist like them that is intelligent and heroic because they both responded to the call of their time.

She have contributed a simple but very useful idea/s in nursing which I can apply not only in the four corners of the hospital but also to my daily activities as well.

Zamira Melissa A. Parco(BSN1C said...

I am touched in the phrase above the theory... because it recognize the significance of our functions. It seems we are the bright side of those who needed our hand in times of hopelessness.

The sources of influences like Goodrich, Stackpole, Broadhurst, Thorndlike, Deaver, Harmer and Orlando during her earlier years of Nursing became her stepping stone to have her traits as a theorist and in her achievements.
Her definition of Nursing is famous around the world and her work is really effective in influencing the practice of nursing, the education of nurses and nursing research internationally.

As a nursing student of twentieth century, I wanted to explore the Sigma Theta Tau’s International Library to gather more knowledge and information about nursing and about her articles.

We also know that those theorists are amazing and I conclude that the majority of the nursing student notices the nice part of the theories here in blogsite so, as I criticize her…I noticed that her definitions of nursing or the 14 basic human needs here have no clarity in Analysis. As what we discussed about it, her theory has no traits like the other theories. But, unlike other theories, her 14 Basic Human Needs is applicable in all settings.

Virginia is another nurse to be inspired of...

Her quotation explains how nurse must act and cites a purpose of nursing-- to be a substitute for patients.

Her life is also fun to know because unlike any others she is a very jovial person. Although, she may seem ridiculous for making room arrangements and decorations in hospital, she still tried to enhance the health of patients through beautiful surrounding. I really laughed on how she died, when she celebrated a chocolate party.

How significant is her theory,... a theory that seeks the need of a person. Besides, the song with the chorus, "I need you like water, like breath, like, prayer..." implies that the patient's needs when related to her theory.

Thanks Mrs. O for giving us all the information about this Theorist.

Henderson's inspiring life brought an enlightening contemplation that nurses can be able to feel the leisure of luxurious living as well as sharing himself for the value of caring for patients.

She even made a highly-regarded action when designating nurses as different from the doctors or physicians. Although they have a bond which connects them to practically address the client's situation, she endued an approach which terminated the bondage of nurses from the doctors and successfully enabled the two to perform their designations differently. The nurse as the member of the health care team gave the tremendous treatment in discerning nurses as significant part of promoting health amongst patients.

The four phases which include the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation phases must be imposed and beheld whether patients meet his support of the 14 basic components.

The nurse acts as the partner, substitute, and helper if the patients can't fully perform certain things in accordance to his health situation.

To Mam Oloresisimo, thank you for the sharing a wide scope of Virginia's Henderson's life and contributions.

She made great contributions in nursing professions especially her 14 components of basic needs. Her theory seems to be simple, but when you look at it in different angle; you must understand what it really means. Her parents should be proud of her. Her idea open up in 1918 in world war 1 like nightingale. and she dedicated her self to serve others. and she use some of the sources like annie goodrich, henderson inspired was the death of the army school of nursing, caroline stackpole, importance of maintaning physiological balance, jean hurst, the importance of hygiene and asepsis and many more. and there is an important role of the nurse she state that in relationship to patient, nurse maybe substitute to the patient, a helper to the patient and partners to the patient. we should be bind and united as one by the doctors and the member of the health team to promote a quality care for our patient in application in practice we should follow the pahse the assessment phase where in we identify if the 14 human needs of a person is met or unmet. In planning phase, we will plan to meet the needs, in implementation, it focused on maintaning health to recover from illness. and in evaluation you will decide whether the goal are met or not. and in education there are 3 pahse that the students should progress in their learning. in research we should improve the practice in nursing

THE 14 Component of Basic Human Needs

First of all, I really like the background music of this video clip, it truly describes how important is Miss Henderson to this profession. She is one of the most renowned theorists in the 20th century, and she is also known as the “First Lady of Nursing”. I wish I could be just like her, travelling around the world while eating chocolates, meeting new friends, teaching and sharing life’s lesson, and I guess she’d put the fun on being a theorist.

Her life story is very amazing, she accomplished a lot in this profession, and she received numerous awards, and became a great role model to nurses worldwide.

Her “THE 14 Component of Basic Human Needs” contributed a lot in nursing. Because it tells what do the patient needs that gives the effectiveness of establishing a good nurse patient interaction, just what I said earlier the background music really fits to the video clip.

14 Basic Human Needs
Virginia has been called the "First Lady of Nursing” and the "First Truly International Nurse". International nurse because she travels mostly every part of the world, its countries and etc.
Her writings, presentations and research have profoundly affected the nursing and gave an impression on the recipients of care by nurses throughout the world. Virginia Henderson also was the one who give the definition of nursing. She said that the nurse should assist the patient in performing activities contributing to health or his recovery; she also said that the role of the nurse is to help the patient meet his needs and help him gain independence to continue living.
According to Halloran, a nurse theorist wrote that Henderson was one of the theorists that gave one of the simplest ideas but influenced everyone in the whole world.
I can say that she is really a great nursing theorist even though her theory is too broad to use it has still an effect. She can be also the next Nightingale because she uses Nightingales belief about the environment and what great effect it could give.

Different and unique techniques of our health are learned in here. It is simple and everyone can do it. The movie that our teacher presented to us gave me an idea on how to take care of our own selves in a simple way to prevent sickness. She serves as a good model for us to be a good and professional nurse. To be able to achieve the highest level of wellness one must know how to control and maintain the proper foods to eat. For me her theory represents a step by step condition on how to become a strong and healthy person. With this, it will help us to be independent the way we take care of our health.

Virginia Herderson is such an achiever person. She was an excellent teacher, researcher, writer and author. As a matter of fact, she published several books in her time and were widely used in the nursing profession and even in studying nursing. She received various awards such as: she was selected to the American Nurses Association Hall of Fame and had the Sigma Theta Tau International Library named in her honor. She was also honored by the Virginia Nurses Association in 1988 when the Virginia Historical Nurse Leadership Award was presented to her.

These awards was so impressive and not easy to achieve by ordinary persons.
This is just an evidence that Henderson is such an intellect nurse from her time and until now her theories are useful in nursing profession.

For me, Virginia Henderson did a great help in the nursing practice by formulating her theory which is the 14 Basic Human Needs. And according to Halloran, a nurse theorist, "Henderson was to the twentieth century as Nightingale was to the nineteenth", which is very true in a sense that Henderson's theory has a huge impact on nursing profession...

Even though that in the last few years of her life, her memory and hearing started to fail, her curiosity and interest in people remain. She was still elegant in nature until the last day of her life.

Thus, she was called the "First Lady of Nursing" and the "First Truly International Nurse"...

The Nurse Patient Relationship - describing the role of the nurse in three levels will help a nurse do the work and perform the role of a nurse with more of concern to client/patient.
Realizing that nurse is must merely to provide care, doing everything for the person, but it is also supplementary and complementary with the good of helping the person become an independent as possible.

I consider Virginia as a very intelligent person, as I do with all other theorist, but she is different, she was able to conceive all this basic nheeds just by observing and based on her own experience. She was able to develop it and make it useful in the nursing field. Her initial indulgence in the nursing profession was quite early in the sense that she was able to achieve all her accomplishments with the least amount of effort and time. To mention just a few, she held the honorary degrees from thirteen universities and had the Sigma Theta Tau international Library named in her honor. She has been called the "First Lady of Nursing" and the "First truly International Nurse.
According to her "the nrse is temporarily the consciousness of the unconscious, the love of life for the suicidal, the leg of the ampuee, the eyes of the newly blind, a means of locomotion for the infant, knowledge and confidence for the mother, the mouthpiece for those too weak or withdrawn to speak and so on, meaning as a nurse, his primary function is being the direct caregiver to the patient;the nurse must make every effort to understand the patient when he or she lacks will, knowledge, or strength..

ybThe life and death of Virginia Henderson was a very interesting one. Upon reading the descriptions about her, I was amaze. It seems like she's perfect because she was described as most gracious hostess, incarnation of those greek verities- the good, the true, and the beautiful, and embodiment of an impish Southern gentlewoman. Her silky drawl, bright blue eyes, and wispy curls added beauty in her personality. And I think, if I met Henderson, I'll admire her or maybe get jelous because of her physical appearance.

I admire Henderson because she has beauty and brain. And also, she has a good heart for she's generous. She helped lots of people without a second thought. She's an intelligent person because she did nothing but to study different profession and helped or share her knowledge to others. She has many titles to put after her name, and that's to ridiculous but amazing.

Her death is unique because before the incident, she asked for a party with lots of chocolates as the only food. And her party was dark because everything that is used in her party is made in chocolate color. And in her burial, you'll be amazed with her because even in her last goodbye, she didn't forgot the people who needs her. Many loves Henderson, I can sense it because knowing her more will make you think that all she did was for everyone especially to the people who needs care and love. And I admired her more bacause of that.

Her story is such a colorful one for me because of her unique personality. Even though she is a very rich woman who is always there for socialization but still her heart remains in the nursing world. One thing that I will not forget about her is when she conducted the seminar or the convention during her times for all the nurses but she required that there must be a costume and a party will be conducted. In that way, she breaks the record of having the greatest no. of attendees for that particular convention. I considered her as a resourceful one. The song ‘I need you’ has a very big connection about her works. It refers to our Basic Needs as a Human to be able to survive in this world. Her contributions are still a great foundation until now.

I think she had already fulfilled all the emptiness on her life before she died because she became successful to her nursing career and gained different accomplishments in the field of nursing and even received many awards. Virginia Henderson was an excellent theorist and achiever of many awards. She is a kind of person that has an awareness to the situation happening with her environment.

I am impress for what she have done to develop nursing profession.Even though she's belong to a well family she retain her great advocacy and attention in caring for the patient.

Her formulated theory makes nurse's work easily because we can easily identify the aspect of health that our patient lacked for.

Virginia Henderson's 14 Components of Basic Nursing Care, at first, can be identified as just a simple theory that only emphasizes on how a person can be identified as a wel-being. But as I look deeper to the theory, it enters my mind that, not all people are healthy. That even an absence of one on the fourteen components of basic needs on a person, the person can be classified as unhealthy. Now i now that not only those sick sick and ill people are unhealthy... Even anyone of us can be classified as unhealthy. What an idea...

The Life of Virginia Henderson was very inspiring. She known of being the "First Lady of Nursing' and the "First Truly International Nurse". Virginia Henderson is famous for a definition of nursing that the unique function of the nurse is to assist the individual, sick or well, in the performance of those activities contributing to health or its recovery (or to peaceful death) that he would perform unaided if he had the necessary strength, will or knowledge. She really work hard to reach her goals. And she was a good model of a nurse.

ma'am thanks for everything and God Bless.

VIRGINIA HENDERSON

Its good for our century to upload or to have a theorist like Virginia. She give us the concept of the 14 basic human needs which indicated the total need of an individual. as enumerated in the sources of this article he more focus on the really basic needs of a human.
Before, as honest as I can say I only know the 4 basic needs of an individual: the food, water, clothing, and shelter. But as I enter nursing there I knew the mostly needed component for a person to survive throughly. We never consider breathing as one of the basic needs but as i read, it is the more important factor for the person to survive in the world like this.
we also not considering the proper eliminating of body waste and normal process of it. But in it , it can be the cause of the person sickness and illness in the structure of the health condition of an individual.
we never considered the very simple need of the person, that can be cause of the anxiety in the body.
Virginia, a well dedicated and smart theorist that the people must be considered as the best model of all.
